Charlotte, NC
Craig and I had a great time in Charlotte, NC this past weekend. This was the weekend of our annual golf tournament we go to. It was formerly The Wachovia Champoinship at Quail Hollow Club. Now it is called Quail Hollow Championship. The weather was great and Saturday was fun. If you have never been to a golf tournament, I encourage you to go. Golf is not fun to watch on TV…gets boring. But actually going is fun. Tee times started at 8:00 so we were there before then. We followed Johnathan Byrd (former Clemson golfer) for several holes since he teed off a little after 8. The early morning is perfect because all the Tiger and Phil Mickelson fans are not there yet. Then we sat on hole 7 which is a great hole to watch. After a few groups came through, Craig found a great spot on hole 9 next to the pin and in the shade. We camped out there for 2-3 hours. We watched the big names come through. We decided to leave our chairs there and run over to number 3 because we knew Tiger was there. Yeah, could not see a thing. So we went back to 9 and watched them come through. I think Tiger needs to show a little more personality. My opinion. After the last groups came through we walked more of the course and ended up at 18 for the rest of the afternoon. The horn blew for severe weather leaving 2 groups on number 18. Of course we could not sit in the bleachers so we went to the merchandise tent to sit out the rain. The good thing…all the Tiger fans left at this point since he had just finished. They finished up playing after about an hour delay. It was great fun. This year I did not feel worn out because we had sat in the shade and it was perfect.
Also, we ate at Rock Bottom Grill in downtown Charlotte. I tried the Shrimp and Grits. They were good but I would not order them again. I will definitely try them again elsewhere. We love Charlotte. I encourage you to visit there and walk around downtown and the Historical Fourth Ward.
