Isaiah 29:13
The Lord says, ” These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.”
Wednesday at bible study I was convicted of the above verse. This verse signifies a second-hand relationship with the Lord. Each Sunday Craig and I faithfully go to church. This is something we do as a family and look forward to teaching Eliana the bible stories and God’s unconditional love for her. But I was hit like a ton of bricks when I read this. How many times have I sat in church as my mind raced to think of the coming week? How many times I have just sang the words to the hymn because it was familiar? How many times I have just said The Lord’s Prayer without giving it much thought? Oh more than I want to admit. I remember many years ago as a youth we went on the annual mission trip. That particular year was in Beaufort, SC. I remember “Ms. J” (leaving name out) talked about worshipping God with our heart and not just our mouth. After that conversation, songs were sung with more heart and conviction. I guess at the age of 30 I have to be reminded of that again. I am thankful God teaches us each day. I am thankful for His forgiveness and saving grace. I look forward to Sunday. I look forward to singing with a new conviction and a new heart.
Ask yourself, what is worship and what does it look like for you?
