The past couple of weeks have been a little more difficult. Eliana is teething and Craig has been sick with the flu. Where is the fun in that? I have noticed Eliana has been waking up at nights. She has been crying out and sometimes I have to go and others I don’t. Saturday night she was crying on and off through the night. I finally realized that she is probably teething and trying to cut her molars. The four front teeth have not bothered here before. I started to investigate and noticed swollen gums and can feel knots. I have noticed a change in bowels and a diaper rash. Not to mention IRRITABILITY! Wow! I had also noticed she had been digging in her ear. I had already taken her to our office for Dr. Caroline to look in her ears and they were fine. So we are loading up with Tylenol, Teething tablets, and Orajel. I am not overdoing it. I just have to do something to help comfort her. Last night she slept much better and so did I. I just hope this ends soon because it is the pits!

Eliana has taken her first two steps! This was exciting as it is for any new mom and dad. You could see the little light in her eyes and the hesitation all at once. She just fell into my lap and giggled as I laughed with her. It was much fun.

We have also taken new strides in eating. She is starting to eat more adult food. This has been frustrating for me at times because I feel like I waste more than she eats. The other night I made Pizzagna and had no expectations of her eating it. She gobbled it up. I fixed Cheeseburger Chili Mac and Cheese (I know heartburn) and she ate that like crazy. I was thrilled by all of this. She has also enjoyed Baked Cavatelli with Italian Sausage and Eggplant. I am just glad she is eating. The good thing is these recipes make enough to have leftovers!

So last half of the week has been a long one. Started out Tuesday night with Eliana running a low grade fever and it spiking to 102.3 degrees during the night. I ended up sleeping with her in the recliner since whe was not willing to lay flat in her crib. During the night I was thinking of the first Bible Study I would miss Wednesday morning. We are starting A Heart Like His by Beth Moore. I have been excited about this for 2 weeks. About 6:00 a.m. Craig came through to tell me he was leaving for work (yes, that early) and said, “No question about it, I will be home at 9:00 so you can go to Bible Study.” As I got ready for the morning and the doctor called for a 10:00 appointment I decided to let Craig drive from Oak Ridge to keep her while I went. I am really glad I did. Normally, I would have fought him on this and told him that was crazy to drive and do that and then drive back and blah blah blah. For once, I just said OK and it was nice to do so. The study will be really good. There are 12 in it and that is a great size for this. Got home, Eliana has an ear infection. At least it is not the flu. Thursday rolls around and I start feeling poopy. I decide it is a sinus infection coming on and start the tylenol. Go to the doctor friday and he said probably right, no flu! YEAH!

Friday we head to Clemson with Eliana feeling better and mama feeling yucky but hanging in there. We had a great time at the tailgate with our usual crowd. We could not have asked for a more perfectly shaded spot in all of Clemson. Eliana had a good time playing and showing her limited skills to all. She did have a short nap…better than nothing. So we pack up to go to the game at 6:00. I missed kick off for a reason and Craig has Eliana in the stands. I go up and she is doing great taking it all in. She sits in my lap and sucks her thumb with her blanket. At the end of the 1st quarter I take her down to feed her supper and then go up at the start of half time to see that it has started raining. Seriously? Who knew this would happen? Why? Why tonight? So under the stands Eliana and I go for the rest of the game. She was no longer sleepy and went wild. All the other kids were with their moms sleeping or sitting quietly. Not OUR child. She was ready to go and off she went making people laugh. She was filthy by the end of the night. Got back to Brandon’s and laid her down while she was asleep in her pack n play and she woke up screaming and coughing. Ended up spitting up lots of mucus. And yes, she and I slept in the recliner…AGAIN. It was okay. I did not even get my clothes changed or (hold your breath) teeth brushed. Long night but worth it if she was comfortable and feeling okay. It is amazing what you do for your kids. I now know.

So, we are home and I am about to go to bed. I will post pics from the game later on. I have to get the site updated.

August 14 we celebrated Eliana as she turn ONE! I know! I can’t believe it. I have reflected over the last year and the changes and milestones she has made. I think back to, “Last year at this time, we were….”. I know, I get sentimental with these things. We had her grandparents over and the Tinkers over to celebrate. And of course when you are trying to plan something for the evening, Little Bit does not want to nap. So the whole afternoon was dedicated to trying to get her to sleep and get ready at the same time. Below are a few pictures…

This weekend we will go to Georgia to celebrate on Saturday. We look forward to seeing the family and mostly to meeting my new niece, Eliza. I know Mama will be confused with the different “E” names.

Eliana has learned to love Oreo’s. I cannot eat one without being attacked! She loves the creme. She also enjoys Grilled Cheeses. She must be related to me! Last night we fed her porkchops and rice. I have been nervous about feeding her table food. I don’t want her to starve. I am just really happy she loves milk! I am not sure where she gets that from. Must be her Grandpa. Craig and I do not drink milk. I have not had to buy a gallon milk in a long time.

She is not walking yet but I know it will be just a matter of time. She will hold on to my hands and then walk around the table. She really enjoys getting into our chip drawer and taking those out. Today I found her sitting on the chips! She is a hoot!

I have to say…she was the cutest baby on the beach! We had a great time at Hilton Head. It is a great place to visit and we will go back. It had been a while since I had been. (I think the last time is when Mom and Dad took Katie and I to the beach for a day and it rained! That was a four hour drive for a great lunch and ice cream.) We stayed in the Sea Pines Resort within walking distance to The Salty Dog and other places. The weather was great. We were able to see lots of sea life…dolphins about 6 feet off shore, starfish, sharks, and sting rays. Yeah that was cool. Eliana loved the sand. She would take off crawling down the beach toward the water and once she hit water…she cried. Once we passed the waves, she was okay. But overall she did great. Craig has put the pictures up in our photo gallery. Now we are preparing for San Francisco. I will miss Eliana on that trip. She will be with both sets of grandparents throughout the week. Pray for us.

Later today Craig, Eliana and I are headed to Hilton Head until Tuesday. This is a much need break and we look forward to it. At the same time, I have had a hard time getting excited about it with everything else going on. Today is the last day of VBS with 26 three year olds. AMEN! It has been fun but I feel like I am more the disciplinarian and the other helpers are more passive. The other two helpers either have a grandson or son in the class and that takes their attention away from the other kids. I feel like I am always the one telling them to get back in line, get off the stage, or whatever it is. Kind of frustrating but some of the kids have never heard no before. I had one little boy pull his pants down in protest. I told his that was unacceptable and refrained from what I really wanted to say. Anyway, so with that winding down today and meeting with another builder last night and trying to keep our house in order and clean it has been a wild week.

So beach here we come! I know Eliana will eat the sand and probably hate the water. She hated the splash pool I bought her (it was the giraffe head on it that scared her). Maybe she will like the big pool.

Yesterday we had Eliana’s nine month check up. She gets a little more vocal each time we go. By vocal I mean screaming. She hates the weight machine and laying on the table. The first lady that weighed her did not zero out the scale so she weighed the same thing she did at 6 months. I told they lady this was not right but she did not listen to me. She insisted that she was right because that is what the scale read. IF she was correct, we would have a serious problem. The doctor came in and we chatted about her weight and he then took her to be weighed. Yes, I was correct in this. She weighs 17 lbs 1 ounce. He does want to check her weight each month. Hold your ears! Meanwhile, I am struggling to find stuff to feed her. He said to feed her more and whatever she wants. I sat in Wal-mart trying to figure out if I should go to Stage 3 foods. But, all the stage 3 is mixed foods and then I see Sweet Potato and Alaskan Salmon. REALLY? Come on, I don’t think so. So, one lady in there said to double up on Stage 2 and try a few of the stage 3 since most babies don’t like it. Also, to try some table foods. I am at a loss…

One cute thing she did…yesterday we were playing in her room after lunch. I knew it was getting closer to nap time. She crawled over to her crib and spotted her blanket between the slats of the crib. She starts to pull it through but does not get it all the way out. Then she holds the end of it and sucks her thumb with it tucked in her hand. She loves to have her blanket and thumb in mouth when she is sleepy. That was a definite sleep cue! It was cute.
